Performers

Show time again for the school choir! They performed their sixties medley a few times last year and we got good mileage out of that pencil skirt we hacked together! Unfortunately it doesn't fit Lovey anymore and we had to go with plan B. MY poodle skirt from high school. I don't think it's actual 60's garb but several other girls had them and my affinity with sewing has not increased and this was ready made! My Grammie made it for me and I loooooooooooooooooove it still. Not many occasions to wear it even if it wasn't a wee bit bursting at them snug. We had to roll the waistband a bit for her but other than that it was great and she thought she was the bees knees! Honey was happy with her capris and blouse from last year and didn't want to change anything. (dodged a bullet there I tell you!)

Their group is huge! I swear their teacher is part Pied Piper! I can't believe the amount of students she gets participating. They're excited for every practice. It's much easier to get them out of bed on a choir practice day. The same teacher has started a drama club for their grade and they're going to be putting on a play of Wizard of Oz. Between choir and drama and band, I'm not sure how much outdoor recess Honey & Lovey get. It seems they have an activity every day. Sweetie has joined the dance club but other than that her only interest is her gymnastics so she plays outside for her recesses!

Choir Performers

Honey & Lovey are completely thrilled to be in Ms. H's choir at school. They wait for practice day all week and love the songs she has them learning. The choir is getting more well known in the city and they get invited to lots of events to perform. She does an amazing job with them and their pieces are always very entertaining. This was some sort of military banquet and the kids were brought in to sing O Canada for the opening of the dinner. White and black supplied by us and she had the sparkly red ties for everyone and they were a sharp looking bunch together! Right now they're pulling together lots of Christmas numbers for different events coming up for the holidays. So far all the practices are during school time but it could get tricky if they get a lot of invites to perform over the next few weeks!

Choral Competition

The girls' school participated in a choral competition last week. They've been going to practices every week for months now. Almost all their friends are in the choir. Honey hadn't joined in the fall and was the only girl left in the classroom at lunchtime. Her teacher felt bad for her and let her go eat with her sisters next door. Once the Christmas concert was over, Honey and Lovey didn't hesitate, they wanted in on this choir business! Since they returned in January they've been working on their pieces. The music teacher emailed them the songs so they could listen & practice the words at home.

Their french immersion classes sang a French song together and the choir (90 kids!) did a separate number that compiled a bunch of songs from the sixties.

The music teacher is a choral competition pro! She always adds simple yet effective touches for wardrobe, actions and music that consistently impress the judges. This year, the judge told them that they'd made him forget to that he was judging and instead found himself just enjoying the performance. Their school won all their categories! They were flushed with pride at their placements and the high marks they received.

Grammie was able to change her work schedule and come watch the shows and Shirley made it too! They were excited to their fans. Unfortunately Murray was away for a work trip and couldn't make it. Please take note of Lovey's last minute pencil skirt! We bought the materials and being the master seamstress I am, I figured I could just use heatbond for the bottom hem and glue gun the back seam and elastic waist band and Velcro closure. WRONG! As soon as she started walking, the back seam slowly started peeling apart. We were 2 seconds away from a traumatic wardrobe malfunction when I called in reinforcements and got Penny on the job. She quickly zipped around with her sewing machine and saved the day. Note to self: glue gun NOT ideal for load bearing seams!!!

Easter Duet

Lovey has been working hard on a lot of her music lately! I thought it might be good for her to get some performance practice in while she's got so much material polished up and asked the minister to let us know if he needed any "filler" for upcoming services. Luckily he had an opening on Easter Sunday so Murray's parents and sister & BIL could catch the show.

As you watch her play, you can see how much she enjoys it. She started off completely comfortable in front of a church full of people! Then I saw her settle in to her piece. She closed  her eyes and smiled and had that bow flying along the whole way through Sunny Summer March. She especially enjoys having Murray accompany her on guitar.

and since I had my camera handy, I got a shot of the kids singing during children's time!

"Like a rock, like a rock, God is under our feet. Like a starry night sky God is over our head. Like the sun on the horizon, God is ever before. Like a river runs to ocean, our home is in God ever more."

Hope everyone had an enjoyable and blessed Easter as we did!

One Good Day

is apparently all we're entitled to around here! Yesterday's well behaved, mild mannered children were not here to stay! Lovey had a one hour crying, screaming jag about pants. Then later in the day Sweetie followed suit for just about the same amount of time over a sewing dilemma!

In between mood swings, they worked on a lot of Harry Potter Lego, bopped along to their MP3 players, singing their  hearts out, started their crystal formations, built a robot, made their own gum and read their books.

Bedtime was a gong show as the book they're reading hit a creepy spot right before lights out. Hoping to have them settle more, we let them read for awhile in bed but by 9pm it was time for sleep. or so I thought! Sweetie was too scared. Honey's book was too sad and Lovey probably would have gone to sleep if the other two hadn't been carrying on.

I finally offered to let Sweetie sleep in my bed as that sometimes helps. However the other 2 heard that and were outraged at the injustice of the special privileges being doled out! I told them they could all crawl in if they wanted. What a waste of time! Two more trips up there to tell them to settle down as they fought over who got the middle, who had the most blankets, who was talking too much.... Honey didn't really want to be in there anyway but did NOT want to be alone in her room. On my last trip upstairs, I gave a warning that if they hadn't worked it out and settled down in 5 minutes, the sleepover at my place was cancelled. Almost exactly 5 minutes later, Honey comes tip tapping down the stairs, clutching Baabaa and says "they're still whispering!". So I told her they were all going back to their own beds then. "Good!" she says and happily heads back upstairs. "but this makes you a tattle tale!!!" I tell her. She remains unfazed by this and heads off!

Sweetie was still terrified of sleeping alone, so I told her to crawl in with Lovey but she had to be quiet or she was going to her own bed. Seems to have worked out ok :)

Reach The Clouds

The girls took advantage of the sunshine this afternoon and hit the swingset. While they were flying through the air, they composed a new song. If you want to hear it live, there's a slight problem. They only seem to be able to perform this number while all of them are swinging. Taking this show on tour will be a little tricky!

I like their request at the end. These are high tech kids!

Singing~!

All 3 of the girls' classes sang together at a local high school. The song is called Six Inch Boots in a 9 Inch Puddle. Cute!
