Sleepover Downtown!

Having only one vehicle and a hockey schedule is quite the juggling act! Sunday morning Lovey & Honey had a game out of town so Murray needed the vehicle. But he was supposed to teach Sunday school so I was subbing in for him. And Sweetie was doing the scripture reading that day too. We couldn't skip!

I decided to ask Aunt Cathy if we could stay overnight with her as she lives within walking distance to church and then I could find someone heading out our way after the service. She thought that was a great idea and we packed our bags and headed in!

We helped her decorate her tree, had some snacks and hot chocolate (well I just had water but the normal people enjoyed hot drinks!) Sweetie hit the jackpot with AC's decoration discards and loaded up her bag to come home!

While we were there Sweetie found the rotary phone in her room and wanted to know if it worked and it did. She tested it out with a call home to Murray and reveled in her retro experience!

She was a little nervous about doing her reading in church and practiced it several times. She initially agreed only if I'd go up with her. The night before, I realized I would be upstairs with the Sunday School while she was reading! I mentioned to AC that I'd have to figure out when to slip back in to go with her and AC offered to do it instead and Sweetie was fine with that. When it actually came time to do it, she decided to go all on her own instead! I asked her afterwards what made her decide to be so brave and she said she just thought she might be able to and wanted to try. She did a great job and got so many nice compliments. No one could believe she was nervous because they couldn't tell at all! AC made me a copy of the service so Murray & I could hear her afterwards and she did sound great! She's so hesitant and shy sometimes that this was quite an impressive feat and hopefully built some confidence for her!

Grade 3 Finale!

Last bus pick up of Grade 3!

The girls had a great year and finished strong. We were so pleased and proud of their glowing report cards. Lovey & Sweetie's teacher said it was an honour to have both of them and the only thing that could have been better would have been to have all 3 in her class. Honey's teacher took a leave for the last couple months of school as part of a pre retirement option so she had Miss A as a supply teacher for the remainder. Their class had a pj party for the last day so that's why she has the wild pants. Acorn wanted in for the photo op!

Once we said our goodbyes & gave the teachers their gifts (homemade chocolate sauce & Chapters money) we headed out for a FroYo lunch. Yep. I totally did. It's dairy & they put some fruit sooooo 2 food groups covered and everybody was full. It's all good :) Actually it was more than good, it was awesomely tasty. For realz. After "lunch" we dropped Acorn off and went to load up on books & join the summer reading program at the library. Honey plans to read 55 & Lovey estimated 40 I think. Being read to counts as 1 and every 15 minutes or 5 chapters also counts. They're well on their way so we'll see how it goes. Actually recording the reading is probably going to be more of a challenge than doing the reading! Sweetie abstained from participating in this so she can read without all the pressure!

After supper, Honey & I headed back downtown to check out the culturefest and got some henna tattoos! A great end to a great kick off to summer vacay!

Mummy's Little Bookworm

Look who I found all curled in the rocker this morning when I got up! Honey's been burning through books lately! Grammie got her several last Sunday, I'm pretty sure there were 5 of them and by Friday she had nothing to read.  We were going shopping for a bday present for a party she was going to so I said "bring your wallet, maybe you'll see a book you'd like to get. or we could stop in at the library if you want". Immediately she said "I'll go the library and get books for free Mum!!!" (is that my girl or is that my girl???). So we did. She only picked 3. Two of them are the size of what she's reading in these pictures and the other was a smaller novel about Hannah Montana but she finished that one the same day. She is loving this one now though and can't get enough reading time in! We have definitely succeeded in raising a reader in this kid!
