Mice Will Play!

Last weekend, Honey & Lovey had an out of town game but Sweetie and I stayed behind for her gymnastics lesson and to look after Checkers. But it didn't seem fair that THEY were going out for supper without us so we headed to the hotel (kids eat free! Coupon Kelly strikes again!) and some fish & chips (me) and chicken fingers (her). She gives high marks to the french fries at this place and couldn't even finish her chicken. Strangely enough she had plenty of room for her brownie dessert and didn't feel that I needed to help her at all!

We had a nice time and took Checkers out for a walk when we got back so he was pretty happy too!

Grand Opening!

Another day, another flat tire. No.I am NOT kidding. Construction work on our road is wreaking havoc with our old tires. This was the 2nd one that was completely shot in the last couple of weeks. I'm sure the city will feel badly for causing this mayhem, distress and expense and will compensate me accordingly in no time!

The tire still had quite a bit of air and the flat warning had just come on but when I got down to look at the tire, I could hear the air hissing out. I managed to get to a gas station quickly and pump it up and get us to the tire place before it lost too much air. Hello 3 new tires. Hopefully that will be the end of my side of the road woes... for awhile. When I was in a week or so ago, the manager said I should have some kind of award for most tire changes. Oh yeah, I'm special!!!

After that hiccup, we were on our way for groceries, much to the children's dismay and annoyance. Despite my best efforts to race through the store so we could go pick up Acorn, I, apparently, took "years" to get the groceries. I'm not sure why it takes me so much longer with 3 inquisitive helpers than it does on my own. Strange huh?

I gave them the option of getting something from the bakery for dessert for Acorn's visit. Honey wanted cupcakes, Lovey wanted mini cinnamon buns and Sweetie wanted chocolate chip cookies. A debate ensued until I cut it short. "Agree on something, get it and put it in the cart. You have ten seconds." I then counted it off, a tad on the slow side to give them a bit of an advantage but still a sense of urgency. FAIL!

Lovey ran and grabbed the cinnamon buns and said "Here!"
Me: you didn't agree.
Lovey: yes we did! 2 out of 3!
Me: that's not agreeing, go put them back.

A few aisles later I notice a sale on Oreos and tell them they get a 2nd chance but still a 10 second window. They had a package of cakesters in the cart in less than 5! Sometimes they learn quickly (but not as often as I'd like!!!)

Finally groceries were done and we picked up Acorn from her mom's office and headed home. They hadn't seen each other in over a month and the happy chatter and excited giggles were fun to listen to as we drove home.

For lunch they set up a "restaurant" and we got out candles, tablecloth, fancy glasses and serving dishes. The whole nine yards! I was "Chef Kiki" and I overheard some good customer feedback such as "these cheesies are just divine!!!"

After closing up the restaurant we took our latest dog, Rudy, out for a walk. It was pretty hot out so we didn't go too far and headed home for a swim. They splashed around for quite awhile and the lawn in that area mowed and a sweaty workout at the same time. Such a multitasker I am!

By the time Acorn's mom came for her, everyone looked pretty tired and that's a good way to end the day!

Out & About

Lovey had a birthday party downtown on the weekend so we dropped her off and wandered around exploring and checked out the library for awhile and then picked her up when she was done. We made a stop into a music store and found an awesome present for her birthday. Her sisters helped me pick out a new music stand for her and it's a red pearl metallic colour. How perfect is that?!??!? Can't wait to see her open that! We also picked up supplies to make some of the favours for their loot bags. Countdown to the big party is on!!!

We had the pleasure of a visit from Auntie KK & Uncle Tall Paul this weekend! AKK spent the day with us while UP did dog stuff. Then we met up for supper and went out for Mexican food. The restaurant had changed hands unbeknownst to me and the food wasn't as good or authentic and the service was reallllllllly slow, especially for starving 8 year olds. The manager came over to ask how things were going. Our waitress had told us our food would take 10-15 minutes and it was at the 25min mark when she asked so I commented that it seemed a bit slow. She immediately went to check on things and 10 minutes later our stuff was ready. Thank goodness for activity filled place mats & crayons! They did give us a $50 gift certificate to come back again so I might give it another shot.

By the time we got home it was too late for movie night but we watched a Little House episode instead. LOVE those shows :)))

Murray was in a race while we were running around town and had a great day!  His team placed 6th and came home dirty, happy and with some free beer!

Friday Fun!

School seemed much better the rest of last week & so far this week! I check in with them and ask how recess was, what they played, who was there etc. Most of the time it's all the usual characters, including the girl that Sweetie was having difficulties with. Everything has been fine since the teacher talked to them all. Yesterday Sweetie came up to me and said "I'm having a great week at school Mum!" So that seems to all be resolved... for now!

Honey was quite excited when she got home on Friday and proudly pulled this out of her bookbag to show me! (wish I could remember what it was for.... apparently you can't wait a week to catch up on blogging and still have accurate info to report....)

That night, we went out to celebrate Valentine's day since I was volunteering at the church dinner on Tuesday night. We went to a place downtown and some people felt it required formal wear. They got their gowns & accessories and make up and hair all done (I think they helped each other) and then liberally applied some body glitter to add la piece de resistance! Our waitress was quite impressed and took us straight to the most royal table they had..... waaaaaaaaaaaay in the back! She called them Princess Buttercup, Princess Smiley and Princess of (restaurant name) all night. They ate it up with a spoon! We had a great meal and they were very good little princesses with no fusses or disasters.

Sweetie couldn't decide on a necklace to wear, so she put them ALL on!!!
