Sleep Forker

Recently, one night after FINAL hug & kiss, tuck in, drink requests etc, I went downstairs to relax. It didn't seem like too much after I got down there that I heard heavy clomping out to the kitchen and back. I figured it was someone getting one last drink of water and since they didn't dilly dally or involve me, I ignored it.

The next morning after I woke the girls for school, I heard Lovey exclaim "Mum! There's a FORK in my bed!!!"

I broke into laughter instantly realizing what must have happened. I went in to see for myself and sure enough, there was a fork in there! I told her what I'd heard and she cracked up immediately and between giggles said "oh yeah, that must have been me!" and we all had a good laugh.

She's got no problem enjoying a joke, even if she's the main character. She appreciates a good story and a good laugh. I think this will serve her well!

Birthday Girl

Our very own Old Nanny reached a special milestone recently and we got to go to the party! To see her clicking around in her high heels, you'd never know she's 80! She's the youngest, coolest octogenarian I know! I hope I have half as much get up and go as she does. Who am I kidding she's got more at her age than I do at my own now!

It was a nice party and an impressive turnout. She's a popular lady, not surprisingly! The buffet was a hit with the kids and they got to play pool and air hockey too so lots of fun for all! They were desperate to clean up the leftover food so we went home with 5 plates of goodies (woohoo, no cooking supper that night!)

Thanks for including us in your special day Old Nanny!

Chefs in Training

I've been trying to get back in the habit of getting the girls in the kitchen making meals each week. Some evenings just aren't possible due to activity schedules but usually Sweetie and I are on our own each Monday night so she likes to cook on that day. It's a good time as we don't get interrupted and can chat as she gets things ready. Last night she made plum chicken and curry noodles. It's one of Murray's favourites so she was excited to show him when they got home from hockey practice. She remembered part way through the preparations that she didn't actually like the meat but she loves the smell of curry so the noodle part was ok!

Murray was excited and impressed when he got in and let out one of his trademark "whoohoo!" shouts when he saw what she'd made!

I helped her find ingredients but she did all measuring, mixing, pouring and baking while I made a dessert and the salad. They're learning lots and tell me in astonished tones "nobody in my class can make supper!" or "so and so only knows how to make Kraft Dinner!"

It's a slower process but they've gotten so much better and love serving their meal. It's funny to see their annoyed expressions if someone complains about the food!

Trekkers

Murray was about to head out for a walk in the woods with Checkers when I suggested that Sweetie go with him. He gets to spend quite a bit of time with Lovey & Honey at hockey so we try and even it out with some Sweetie time when we get a chance. She's not always keen on outdoor pursuits but she does love having one on one and jumped on this opportunity!

They were gone quite a while and came home with rosy cheeks!

Acorn time

Just for fun, we brought Acorn home from school with us yesterday! No special occasion, we just hadn't had her over in awhile. They played after they got home and then it was time for tacos!

After supper they made their own ice cream sundae waffle bowls. Exciting! I picked up a bunch of toppings at the bulk store and they had a field day, sauces, gummies, sprinkles, cherries, the whole nine yards. I have to say mine was pretty tasty and they seemed equally fond of theirs!

Good fun and good eats, perfect BFF night!

Ice, Ice Baby!

Murray has worked very hard to get a backyard rink ready for us to use! A lot of digging, shaping, packing down and flooding, flooding and more flooding! As a result we've been able to go out for several evening skates. Lovey and Honey have practiced their "lifters" (shooting a puck and getting it up off the ground, still in progress but an exciting goal for hockey players). Sweetie likes to practice her twirls and jumps and we've had to forbid cartwheels in the interest of public safety as well as her own!

The recent mild weather is not ice friendly though. It's still holding so far but if that nice little polar vortex doesn't come beck soon I think we're in trouble!

That's the spirit!

Lovey is concerned about her cereal supply. Apparently someone is over quota on their portions!!! Ahhhh the holidays are a time of sweet sisterly sharing!
