Grampy's Birthday!

We celebrated Grampy's birthday last week at the cottage! It was a rainy day but he seemed to enjoy the festivities and guests!

The Big Race!

Lovey & Honey had their race recently and did well, all things considered. The week prior, they both came down with a touch of the flu and had fevers and were exhausted all week. Neither of them got a single practice run in before the race. Twice that week Honey was in bed by 6pm! We weren't even sure they'd feel well enough to enter.

The morning of the race, they managed to get out of bed and get dressed and once they were fully awake, they were excited to go. Sweetie was holding firm on not participating so everything was normal :)))

Honey didn't get a new PB but when she started practicing, she'd hoped to be able to finish in under 7 minutes and she achieved that and was happy. Lovey hadn't gotten many practice runs in so hadn't set much in the way of a goal and was pleased with her medal haul! Hopefully they'll be in better health for next year's event!

Even with being under the weather, all my runners placed in their age categories and came home with trophies which was pretty exciting for everyone!

Berry Pickers

We hit the strawberry fields again today but the picking was not quite as good and one of my assistants was giving me attitude! Honey didn't want to go pick strawberries but we went anyway since we needed some for jam and the much needed strawberry shortcake!

As soon as we walked down the row, she turned and said "I don't want to pick strawberries. I won't do it." then she stood there and watched us work. I tried to get her to do some, reasoning that if she helped, we could go home sooner since we were only getting 6 baskets but that only got 4 or 5 berries out of her. I warned that strawberry shortcake wouldn't be available to those who didn't help pick the berries and Sweetie piped up "just like the little red hen!!!" but that didn't motivate her either. I decided to ignore her and get the berries picked. After awhile she went to sit on a pile of rocks and wait. Guess who cried and screamed at dessert time at supper tonight??? Sweetie had no mercy "we told you it was just like the little Red Hen Honey!". Either she hadn't taken the warning seriously, blocked it out, or disregarded it all together because this was all news to her and totally UNFAIR!!! She kept up a pretty good tirade of whining until Murray told her she could have some candy. Hopefully next time she'll think twice before deciding she doesn't need to help out. She's been sick for the last week or so with a bad cough. I'm hoping that's to blame for her irritability and general pain in the buttedness!
