Honey gets her outing!

Friday was Honey's turn to go to the eye doctor and she was soooooo ready for it! Like last week, she talked about it all day. "I'm not going to have much time to play with Grammie, I have to go to the doctor!" Luckily she didn't lose her lunch and got to keep her appointment this time. All went well at the doctor's office & her vision is fine.

Honey & I ran a few errands and then hit the grocery store & were home in time to make homemade pizza for supper.

After dinner we dashed outside for a quick bike ride & a bit of fresh air but didn't last long before things started to deteriorate. Sweetie asked for a drink of water at 7pm and then just disappeared. When Murray went to check on her unusual quietness, here's what he found. The poor little thing got her jammies on & put herself to bed!

Christmas in May...

Well Wednesday night was not the greatest. Figures that I would dare mention how rageless Sweetie has been just on the day she'd been saving it up! This time it wasn't so much her just giving us attitude as being sick with a bad cold. However she did jerk us around a bit just for the fun of it & because she knew she could! Between sneezes & kleenex demands & water requests it was another night of hourly wakings

Besides Sweetie's many visits, I believe Honey had a nightmare in there too... or was that last night?? They're all starting to blur together... anyway, by Thursday morning I was pretty tired. This is the type of day made for tv & I wasn't afraid to use it! This is why I try to resist it on other days. I KNOW there will be times when it will save a life so I like to save it for those occasions.

After breakfast they actually got into some Christmas crafts we'd never used. Bonny would be horrified to know I'd never used her kits til now (shhhhh Maggie!) but these things happen for a reason. December was fairly busy & there was no lack of things to do. On Thursday however, entertainment need was at an all time high. I pulled out those folders & we were set til lunchtime!!!!! They cut & pasted & drew & coloured to their hearts' content and I hardly had to fight the urge to beat anyone to death at all! It was great. After lunch we went for a walk, came home, had a bath and then fired up the DVD player & I let the tv take it from there. Another successful day, not mother of the year material but no harm done either!

Still Hanging In There...

Murray's still kicking but seems to be falling victim to this nasty cold. He was in bed by 9:30 tonight so hopefully a good rest will do him some good.
Sweetie was very good tempered last night but seemed to need a LOT of kleenex. At least the rage has subsided. Last night she was very polite all 5 times she woke me up. Call me fussy but even good manners when I'm supposed to be sleeping doesn't seem to do much for me. Although it IS much nicer to be woken up with "Mumma, could you get me a kleenex please?" or "Can someone please take me to pee?" She even uses a nice sweet voice when asking for these services.
Since Murray's got a potential race this weekend, I've been trying to be more alert the last couple of nights so he's not getting up as much & hopefully won't get too sick to run. He's sounding terrible though so I'm not overly optimistic. Ah well, he shouldn't be in a stinking race on MOTHER'S DAY anyway right???? : )))

We went to playgroup this morning and I took some pictures of the moms there. We've all been saying for ages that we seem to know all the kids' names but not the adults'! To help remedy that, I've been getting shots of everyone & yesterday & today I've been working on them & adding text to the photo. I've got most of them done now but I think I'm still missing a few people so I'll have to keep bringing my camera & get them the next time they come.

After playgroup, a few of us went to McDonald's or as the girls call it "Old MacDonald's". It was a nice treat to have lunch out & it kept the girls entertained for a bit longer & I got to chat with Yvonne, Teena & Julie some more so it was a win win situation!

By the time we got home the afternoon was half gone and so was my energy but I decided that after that lunch, I'd better drag my butt up & down the road! I managed to talk them into a stroller ride and off we went. Only a couple stops for dandelion picking & we zipped up & back quickly so I could get supper started. Lovey was pretty tired today but she was the one who wanted to do the most running as we went. The other two were the lazybones this time. Go figure!

When we got back they were keen on checking out our rhubarb patch. Most people seem to be able to grow this effortlessly. I've even heard of occasions where people have trouble GETTING rid of it. Well, we seem to have whatever the opposite of a green thumb is. Yes, last year we managed to KILL all our rhubarb plants that were given to us by an accomplished gardener!! They came to us in good shape but we must have looked at them funny because before the summer was over, they were all wizzled (not sure that's a real word but all that's coming to me at the moment). We tried weeding AND watering them. Nope. So to see them coming up at all this year was a total surprise. Maybe they'll turn out afterall. nahhhh, I'm sure the kelmur gardening curse will kick in before long!

Every Hour, All NIGHT LONG

Don't get too excited, I'm just talking about Sweetie waking us up! She had another rough night last night & we were all up many many times through the night. However she does seem better today & was able to stay awake until almost 7pm (last night she went to bed a little before 5pm). Now that Honey & Sweetie are on the mend, it is of course time for Lovey to come crashing down with the cold. All these sleepless nights are taking their toll on Murray who has a race coming up that he's been training for!
Cranky Honey Bunny, so many tears, so little time...
oh! silly me! I seem to be outside in my negligée
I hate everything!

My lovely cousin in law (note apron reads "caution, hot dish")
me, my flowers & my demo cake

Last night I had my 2nd class for the cake decorating course I was teaching. I thought it went not too badly considering I've never taught anything like this before & haven't taken any further courses myself since the intro one in 1999. Other than buying their supplies, the course was free so I'm pretty sure everyone got their money's worth! ; ) You get what you pay for! Everyone seemed to enjoy it & one lady said she'd come back & take it again just to review & practice more. If there's enough interest I might do more of them throughout the year but have a fee so the church can make some money. All the extra snow removal & cold weather have had a nasty impact on the budget so it would be nice to do something to help out with that since we don't really have the funds they need! Overall I thought it was a good experience for me. I've NEVER been keen on doing presentations or speeches or anything by myself in front of a large group. Luckily I stacked the class mostly with people related to me so I couldn't have had a better group to practice on. My family already knows the good, the bad & the ugly. If they show up anyway, they know what they're getting into! After the class last night, I got a nice card & a pretty bouquet of flowers as a thank you so that was really nice & unexpected!

Today I tried to get some crap done around here but you'd never know it. I put away at least one load of previous days' laundry & washed & hung two new loads, cleaned the bathroom.... hmmm it FELT like a lot more than that! Oh wait! updated the multiples club report for the treasurer, worked on a display of pictures for playgroup that I've been meaning to do since early January, uploaded all the pictures to order the prints, cleaned up all the icing stuff from last night's class.... uhhhhh made supper.... vacuumed the kitchen & living room.... well darn it, it seemed like a productive day but that list looks like it could all have been done in about an hour, but I swear it took all day! (and of course was all done in between 435 tantrums and 3000 snotty noses)

Is Cold Season not OVER yet???

We've got a cold going through the house AGAIN. I thought we could skip a few weeks without some sort of illness dragging us down, but no, I guess that's just not an option. Although in the grand scheme of things, a cold is no big deal. I got an email the other day from a friend of mine who babysits a 2½ year old who was just diagnosed with leukemia. I'm blessed to only have runny noses to contend with.
Honey came down with it on Friday & then 10 minutes before we were supposed to leave for her eye appointment, she vomited all over. I felt terrible for her (and Grammie who caught it all on a pillow!). Not only because she was sick, but because she'd soooooooo been looking forward to her outing with me. She'd talked about it all day, reminding me not to forget that she was coming with me today & not to forget to take her to the doctor etc. When I told her she'd have to wait til next week, she was crushed & started crying right away. I assured her she'd get to go next Friday and it would be more fun when she was feeling better and she seemed to accept that. Sweetie took her appointment & she'll have Sweetie's next week.
playing with depth of field again, comparing the amounts of blur at different F stops.

The appointment went well & Sweetie did all the tests perfectly. I was so proud of her when she listened to everything they asked her & followed all the instructions. She even answered questions when they asked her things. Sometimes the kids get shy & just get a goofy grin & hide behind me when someone tries to talk to them. Friday's appointment went well & she got some stickers when we left. Her vision is fine and no concerns there. We're hoping to avoid glasses for a few more years!
After the appointment we went for groceries and she helped me pick out fruit and put things in the cart. She seemed pretty happy with the whole excursion & it was nice to have a little one on one time for a change.

On Saturday Honey was feeling a little better & no more vomiting incidents. However, late Saturday night & into the wee hours of Sunday morning, Sweetie started coughing and waking up crying and on Sunday afternoon, she wanted a nap. Never a good sign. She slept for over 2 hours & only got up when I woke her because we had to leave to get to my parents' for dinner. The other 2 fell asleep on the drive up there, also unusual. We didn't stick around long, anticipating a dicey bedtime and it was a wise move. There was quite a bit of crankiness so I was glad we weren't late getting them tucked in.

Sweetie had a rough night so of course, Murray & I had a rough night as well. She was up many mnay times, coughing, sneezing & mucus everywhere and on and on. I was exhausted this morning when Murray was leaving for work. Today was minimal effort day with large doses of TV thrown in and a looooooooooong bath. We did go for a walk in the stroller so they got some fresh air but didn't over exert themselves or anything.
