The girls have been wanting some coloured streaks in their hair for awhile now. Sweetie wanted the entire top front portion done in pink, so it would clearly mark which parts would go in her "cute ponytail" but I thought we should start with something smaller to test it out. I bought some bingo dabbers and we tried it out last night. Honey got her purple stripe first and was immensely pleased with her cool new look. Next I worked on Sweetie's pink section which went really well since her hair's a bit lighter. Since it's so thin, I did a wider section so it would stand out more.
Annnnnnnnnnd that was the end of the enjoyable part of the activity. oooooooooooo boy. Next up was Lovey, you'll notice there are no photos of her finished product. :( In her defense, she was up in the middle of the night, the night before with an earache that took awhile to medicate and get her settled back down to sleep. I was also tired from this nighttime circus and probably was a bit less patient than normal.
She chose blue as her colour and I warned her ahead of time that her hair was the darkest and that she probably wouldn't be able to see her stripe as well as her sisters'. We proceeded anyway. It wasn't showing up well at all so I kept adding in hair and squeezing more and more colour into it. As I combed it through she whined and pulled away and grunted and cried. As she moved, it caused the blue strands to land on her teary face leaving ink EVERYWHERE. She wouldn't stay still, flipping her head this way and that, making an even bigger mess, getting it on her clothes and mine. I tried to get it off her face with the washcloth but this was also uncomfortable making her flail around some more, replacing all the ink I'd just removed!!!!! Finally I got her to stand still so I could dry it and brush it out as it shows up better on dry hair. She took one look and started screaming crying that I hadn't done as much on hers as I did on the other two. The reverse was actually true but try telling HER that! When she got tired of screaming about that, she decided that the rest of her hair was too messy and collapsed in a heap on the floor to cry about that! (she'd had a braid and her hair was wavy from it). That's when I beat a hasty retreat and closed the door so she could enjoy her cry in private (and to buffer the rest of us from the piercing wail!). The other two came outside for the photo op and when we came back in Lovey was still watching herself howl in the mirror. I decided that was enough of that and got her cleaned up and tucked into bed. Once she was settled, she was much calmer and sweet and cuddly. We read a few chapters from her book and that was that!
