Runner In Training

Murray does a few races each year, mostly 10K's now. Honey & her sisters have participated in the kids' race that they have just before the 10K starts. It was 100m and for up to age 5. Last year they still went in it but we told them they couldn't do that one again. Honey decided she'd try the 1K this year, which is for ages 6-15. Murray took her out to get proper sneakers and she's been doing a few practice runs. She can now run the full distance! Unfortunately tonight we had Swedish Meatballs for supper and she had to take a break on the way back as she was too full!

These are her first lace up sneakers (I've been cheating all this time with Velcro & stretchy openings!) and she's been trying to figure out how to tie them. Tonight she got one of them done herself!

All's Fair in Love & Dessert

Berries were on sale today when I got groceries, I had a pound cake in the freezer.... it seemed like a good idea! Berry Bliss Cake for dessert!!! When they saw this, they were anxious to know what supper was going to be.

Unfortunately for them, fiddleheads are also available now! Since it's such a short season, I decided to get some! and what's perfect with fiddleheads???? Salmon of course! Once I told them what was on the menu, the screams of "NOT FAIR!!!!" immediately ensued, quickly followed by the wails of "whyyyyyyyyyyyy???????????" I told them it was our surefire way to make sure we got as much of this dessert as possible. Wow! talk about getting some 6.95 yr olds peeved in a hurry!!! Not only did I enjoy a yummy dessert, I was highly entertained at the same time. Sweetie managed to get through the meal and was able to partake of the delicacy with us. In all fairness, I did offer them a substitute of raw baby carrots instead of the greens, plus their entire serving of salmon could have easily fit onto a salad fork!

Not So Hot!

We had our first trip to the beach on the weekend and the sunshine managed to avoid us completely! On our last night there, we went down to the water anyway but it had to be the fastest trip on record. We didn't get far from the stairs before everyone was freezing, even with fleece coats under their rainjackets!

Despite the weather, we all had a great time and the girls were very excited to see their friend who lives down the road from the cottage. I sent her a message to tell her we were there and she replied very quickly with "I know! I saw you go by!!" and she squeezed in some time to come visit the girls while we were there. Lovey was in the middle of balking at her dinner vegetables when G knocked on the door. I never waste an opportunity and told her she wasn't allowed to go see her guest until she got her vegetables down. Mind you we're only talking about one slice of carrot and a pea or something like that. I've never seen the kid move so fast, she slammed those into her mouth, chugged some milk to wash them down and was out in that kitchen like a shot. Remind me to always invite G over at suppertime!!!

We also got to spend lots of time with Mr Bojangles and he kept the girls hopping with various games and playtime. He & Lovey had a secret hideout under the stairs and I was checking them out when he firmly admonished me "This is a secret hideout. NOT a peek in whenever you want hideout!!!!!!!" On Sunday morning when his dad woke him up to hit the road for home & hockey school he lost his mind! and this kid LIVES for hockey school. He was so upset and yelling "I don't WANT to go to hockey school!!!!" I'm sure he had a great time when he got there and Grampy says he slept well that night when they got back to the cottage!

I got to go into the city with Karen & Mandy to watch "Something Borrowed". It was sooooooo good!!! It's rare that a movie does a book justice but in this case I'd say they did. I loved every minute of it! AND the author of the book has a cameo which I thought was THE coolest!!!!

Great weekend, hopefully the first of many this summer!

April Showers

Bring loads and loads of dandelions!!!!!!! What a crop has sprung up now that things are growing around here (well not in the garden of course). Murray put them out of their misery today with the lawnmower though so that's the end of them :)
