Slammed Saturday!

Aren't weekends supposed to be easy & relaxing? Well that's just not our style around here! This morning Sweetie came and crawled in with us at 6:10am and I didn't get much sleep after that. She likes to be cuddled in tight. Then Murray started blowing bubbles in his sleep or whatever it is he does! and THEN the freshly baked bread smell was driving me crazy!

I went to my circuit class, then Murray & the girls picked me up & we went to their dance class. They were allowed to wear Halloween costumes and Lovey went as a pirate girl, Sweetie was Hannah Montanna and Honey wore a dancer costume. While they were at their lesson, I ran to the store to get some supplies for supper (Chicken Thai Pizza, yummm!) and got back in time to see their show! Honey & Sweetie got dainty tip toe parts and Lovey was in the heavy stomping group. Coincidence? I think not!

After class we raced back home, grabbed a quick lunch & were back downtown an hour and 10 minutes after leaving dance! This has got to be some kind of record for us and no doubt due to some sort of divine intervention! We met my Aunt Cathy, Uncle Ralph & Clara and the 8 of us raked & bagged leaves at our minister's house. It's clergy appreciation month so we did it as a surprise for him & his wife. They invited us in for a snack afterwards and the girls were thrilled to get cookies & brownies!

When we got home it was almost time to start supper so I got that put together and we ate and then had movie night! It was Honey's turn to pick & she picked what looked like a dolphin movie but turned out to be a documentary/exposé on the dolphin industry in Japan. We didn't watch long and switched over to Little House instead. I had a feeling there was going to be some nasty bludgeoning footage so it was a good time to switch! The kids were bored anyway and were ok with not finishing The Cove.

Zumba!!!!!!!!!

I've recently started going to the zumba class at my gym & it is loads of fun! Spanish music and dance moves AND it's exercise, bonus!

Today the instructor invited everyone to come in costume since Halloween's coming up. Hardly anyone did of course but since prizes were being offered, I thought I'd get in on the action and I won! I got a new workout shirt, thanks to Lady Liberty! See Mumma? It does pay to hang on to stuff for 21 years! :)))

Crazy Scientists!

Today was science club day at school. They are so enjoying this program! I'm not very sciencey oriented but I'm glad they like it. Last week they decorated and brought home beakers and this week they got to play with litmus paper and got to bring that home to try out on household items. They really wanted to invite Tulip over to "play lab" but she already had plans with her aunt.

They ran around the house finding things to test: soap, vinegar, cleaning solution (Murray did that one), Sweetie's magic potion concoction from her room and I can't remember what else. In no time flat they'd gone through all the test papers and were going wild mixing the different "elements" together, even their own spit. Man, kids are gross!

Mail Call!

Woohoo! I love coming home to "delivery notice" slips in my mailbox! Yesterday we missed an important parcel so I picked it up today! The girls got a box of goodies for Halloween from Murray's parents and were pretty excited to tear into it!

This summer I heard this speaker on the family broadcast on our local radio station & was very interested in this doctor's methods! I got the book and loved his straightforward approach. One of his tips is: "B" doesn't happen until "A" is completed. This is one of my favourites that I was already doing & have a lot of success with. My kids ask for & to do lots of stuff every day but aren't always keen on doing jobs/chores/tidying up unless it's holding them back from something they want to do. They'd left lots of toys out in the living room so I told them that as soon as they cleared the floor, they could open their parcel. They didn't even blink but bolted for the living room and whipped that room into shape like nobody's business. Now that "A" was done, they got their scissors out and ripped that package open!

At first glance, Honey was more than a little disappointed with the box.

H (look of incredulous disgust in place): She sent us a BOWL??????????????
S: well, maybe it's not a bowl & she just used that box? Sometimes people do that!
H: no. it's JUST a bowl.
S: I don't think Nanny would send a bowl, let's open it anyway!
H: I'm not. It's going to be a bowl!

Luckily, Sweetie & Lovey were willing to take a chance on the deceptive packaging! They hit the jackpot. I was very impressed that Nanny didn't go overboard on candy at all & packed lots of fun into the parcel. They are in LOVE with their glitter gel pens, fancy cases, @&%$ sticky notes (I will GET you for that one!!, I'm saving them for the cottage HA!) dry erase & all the loot! Murray was thrilled to find a container of gummies and you know I wanted that awesome hairbrush!! They played with their new stationery for quite awhile, making notes and drawing on the newspaper packaging. I believe I even saw a sticky somewhere that said "Lab Girls" :)))
In other news, Lovey had a spectacular dismount off the slide on Monday which ended in a not so spectacular landing :( Her wrist must have gotten bent underneath her when she fell. It was sore and slightly swollen but she was able to move and bend all parts of her arm. It hurt and was probably overextended or maybe sprained but not broken so we decided to ice it and avoid an 8 hour visit to the ER! It hurt quite a bit on Monday night but was feeling better yesterday and more so today. She's enjoying the sling & the attention that it brings though!

Into the big woods

Honey's been styling the headwear lately. She found this scarf in a bag of clothes someone gave us and recently decided it's the perfect accessory for her. She wears it everyday to school and takes it off for class and puts it on whenever she's outside. I think the hot pink shiny satin is the draw but it probably keeps her ears a bit warmer. We've been watching Little House on the Prairie lately and when I put her hair in braids, she thinks she looks just like Laura Ingalls!

As usually the first little bit of the trek took up 3/4 of our time in the woods and when it was time to turn around to go home everybody was all "awwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!! do we HAVE to???" Now why can't they remember how much fun it is when we're trying to get them out the door???? Sweetie scored a bottle on the way out which she's planning to cash in for the Unicef collection at school.

It was a gorgeous day for a walk in the woods. It was, that is, until someone played "help I'm stuck in a puddle" a little too enthusiastically and fell down and got herself and her Baby Alive muddy and soaked.....

At supper we got to do my birthday all over again at my parents house! My favourite meal, more cake, more singing, did I mention MORE cake???? mmmmmm oh and maybe some presents too!!! :))) Thanks M, D&D!!!
