Just figures that just when we think we can safely enjoy some sunny summer weather, wham! Here comes the rain. It looked ominous all day today so I put off going outside for quite awhile. We did some cleaning up, the girls helped make all the beds. Honey & Lovey are still in their toddler beds and can pretty much make them all by themselves & are quite proud of themselves when they do! Sweetie's bed is a real double bed so it's a little harder for her to get the sheets pulled up all the way & smoothed out everywhere but if I do one side while she works on the other, it comes out pretty darn good! So we did that and we worked on putting away some of our toys & played "in the drawer or in the garbage?" for awhile, they caught on QUICK! ; )))
The skies still looked a little risky so then we baked cookies & that took care of the rest of the morning. After lunch they played while I cleaned up and then we did some colouring & tried to use some stencils they'd gotten in a birthday present. BAD IDEA. They don't have enough hand control to follow along the edges but totally understood what the stencil could do and wanted to get all the neat shapes drawn on their paper. Eventually we gave up on THAT plan!
Around 3pm I figured if it hadn't come dumping down by then, surely we'd be ok for another hour or so. (play ominous music here) We sprayed and slathered on the sunscreen, got the camera, Murphy and I threw in some umbrellas for them in case it did sprinkle a bit. They hadn't really tried them out yet & I thought they'd like playing with them if nothing else. la la la la la off I went down naive lane... at the absolute furthest point the heavens decided to open with a mighty roar and then had a good laugh as the rain came down in great quantities. They got to use their umbrellas alright. Sure wish I'd thrown one in for MYSELF!
I managed to snap a few quick pics before the rain got too heavy & I had to put the camera in a bag so it didn't drown!
They did enjoy their umbrellas but Sweetie had a hard time figuring out how to hold hers up straight. She kept standing there with it lopsided and wondering why it wasn't keeping her dry! Honey shared hers with me during the heaviest part of the rain but poor Murphy really got a soaking!
After all this, they didn't feel like picking daisies in the plentiful patch I'd found for them and braved the storm for! They did however go for quite a few wild strawberries that were nearby so it wasn't a total loss.
