Let's Go Walking... After Garbage...

Our newest hobby? Garbage picking! In this day & age of environmental friendliness, we've been trying to teach the girls about recycling, composting etc. Our street is TERRIBLE for litter. It's actually embarrassing! Why on earth people would want to throw their trash on their own road is beyond me! We rarely get any traffic other than the people who actually live here so I'm guessing it has to be people who live here doing most of it. We're not just talking the odd gum wrapper here. There's old water cooler bottles, entire bags of McDonald's garbage, old machine parts, beer cans etc. Our street isn't that long, even if you lived at the very last house, you're a max of 2½ minutes from home! You couldn't possibly stand that Gatorade bottle in your vehicle that long???? Of course, this isn't everyone but it has to be SOME. One neighbour saw us picking up stuff and sortof made fun of us. I just shrugged and said "well, I just get tired of looking at it!" and kept on going.

Whenever we go for a walk now, the girls have their little eagle eyes constantly on the lookout for any piece of garbage they see. I figure we live here, it's our street and we can help make things better. There's a quote I saw somewhere or maybe one of those motivational bits that says "be the change you want to see in the world". I can't fix everything but I can set a good example and hope it rubs off!

Although, with almost 4 year olds you have to be careful! They tend to latch on to an idea like a dog with a bone. Every time they see something thrown on the ground, not only do we have to stop & retrieve EVERY scrap, they also like to holler at the top of their lungs "GARBAGE on the ground? What's THAT Called??????? LITTERING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" which might not be so cool when someday, they spot someone right in the act! But how can I fault them for just wanting to improve things the way I taught them to??? Besides if 3¾ year olds can do it, how hard can it be???

Play Play Play!!!!!!

We had such a funfilled day today, it was awesome!! First off we had gymnastics which is always a good time! Then everyone came back here after the class and the kids ran around while we moms chatted in the kitchen. Someone popped in every few minutes to see if it was lunchtime yet & to make sure we knew they were hungry. After making them wait an incredibly loooooooooooooong time, we FINALLY had lunch ready around noon (cruel & unusual punishment, I know!) Penny had brought fruit & crackers & cheese so that stuff got gobbled up while they waited for the hot lunch to cool. Considering what they had already put away, they did quite a good jog on the rest of the lunch and even still had room for the fresh cookies if you can believe that!

All the girls (including the grown up ones!) were happy to have Tulip's older sister with us. School got cancelled today so she came to gymnastics & back to our house with us. After lunch we went outside & the girls all chased & raced around in the backyard chasing the poor girl around until she fell to the ground in exhaustion. Did they take pity on her at that point? Noooooooooo! Easy access for tickling. Since the kids were very occupied our jobs were easy! The kids all got a couple hours worth of running around in the fresh air & that's always good! I got some laundry dried on the line and got to hang out with adults for awhile. It's a win win! After everyone else went home, Teena & Boo stayed for a movie so we got to make a whole day of it which is always a bonus! A great way to wrap up the week. Yes, I realize it's not Friday yet but Thursday is the last day of the week where it's totally up to me to entertain the kids and plan stuff. Friday is Grammie-day and is pretty much a freebie. It always goes well with little to no effort on my part. It's alllllllllllll about Grammie, polish, makeup & I can't be positive, but there might be the odd treat thrown in there too. ; )

Sweetie- Take II

I managed to convince her to do her original number but she was being a bit goofy.

Sunday.... at home????

we were able to get a little free child labour this afternoon. Although, you get what you pay for!

some dedicated candle blowers, check out that pucker action on the far right!

This week we didn't go to M&D's for dinner, they came here instead! The girls were very excited about the birthday party & ran around with birthday hats on most of the time Grammie & Grandad were here.

another "cake by Kiki", you too could master this technique, one or two spots left in tomorrow night's class!

Sweetie & Grandad spent quite a bit of time together outdoors and Sweetie accumulated quite a rock collection. When I first saw the piles, I assumed this was a combined effort of all 3 girls. Nope. All her. Here she's pointing out her favourite rock "Allie", next to that is "Allie's big sister"

Happy Birthday Grammie/Mumma!

quite a balancing act!
