Bedtime on the Rocks Please!

One evening on our vacation, it was getting close to bedtime so I told the girls to get their jammies on and then I went to take a few sunset pictures while they got ready. Since this process takes them forever, I knew I had enough time to get my shots and get back in time to tuck them in.

Little did I know, 2 little monkeys decided to follow me! They were immensely pleased with themselves and giggled madly at their daring adventure. Their laughter and joy at something so "naughty" was just slightly contagious and how can you be mad at these smiling faces? I didn't even try! They enjoyed their big night out for awhile and then I chased those scallywags right up to bed. Ahhh the memories!!!

First Day of Grade 2!

School is now in session! The girls were ready & raring to go this morning and were out to the bus stop with time to spare. I wonder how many days I'll be able to say that this year? Not too many I expect!

Sweetie had some trouble sleeping last night and took forever to settle down. I think she may have been a bit anxious! This morning she told us she was worried because she couldn't remember where her new classroom was. Since it was right beside Honey's new class & Honey knew where that was, I told Sweetie to follow Honey. It was a great plan in theory. Or it would have been if Honey hadn't forgotten about it and left her sisters behind when she got off the bus first!

Not to worry, my little problem solver took care of the situation and went inside the school and asked someone (she's not too sure who) for help finding her new teacher and they got her to the right place.

Everyone was happy with their new teachers and to see their friends again. They were even more thrilled to come home to tell me there was homework tonight, for ME! I had 3 sets of contact info, emergency numbers, health info etc to fill out. Since it's only one night a year I think I got off pretty easy but made sure to grumble and complain so they could fully enjoy me doing my homework!

I made Classy Chicken (Lovey will even eat the broccoli in this meal!) for supper and we celebrated with a back to school chocolate cake! Unfortunately it was the only cake mix I had in the house & I was in a hurry & I'd forgotten that Honey doesn't like that kind. Uh oh. I was in BIG trouble. She had a huge fit upstairs, crying her eyes out about the flavour and how it was UNFAIR!!!!!!!!! When I didn't seem to react to this display, she took her show on the road to come find me downstairs to scream it into my face in case I hadn't heard properly. When I still didn't pay attention she started hollering "You're NOT LISTENING to me." Finally I looked at her and said "I'm listening & I can hear you fine, I just don't like how you're talking to me." Now that she knew I was paying attention, she switched back to the banshee mantra of "UNFAIR" until I told her to take that voice up to her room. She stormed off in a huff. Want to know the worst part? I actually felt bad for not making a cake that they would all enjoy. :(  We did have a discussion about her behaviour later though as I couldn't just let that go!

As you can see, she got over it :)

Roller Derby Look Out

The girls got out their rollerskates last week for an evening stroll but as usual, there were a few hiccups along the way. Before we even got out of the driveway, Honey had already switched over to her bike. That's fine, at least we're on our way. Not too far down the road, Sweetie's skates are giving her absolutely unbearable pain so we left them on the side of the road and she skipped off on her merry way. Screaming fit avoided and all is well with the world. Lovey is the last skater standing but eventually her skates are just too much for her too and are abandoned halfway down the road. We must be an interesting bunch to follow on these excursions, we're forever littering the street with discarded items, bikes, balls, skipping ropes.... you name it, someone has had a problem with it somewhere along the way and our path is strewn with an odd assortment of toys, equipment and sometimes outerwear. We eventually retrieve it all but until we do it's an interesting trail!

Oh, and if the weeds growin' on the side of the road are taller than yer kids, ya might be a redneck!

Honey, why are you making that serious face??? "I don't want pictures."

Clothing line pole still standing, even with a double load of laundry out on it! Woohoo!

Lawn Art...

A house on our street has 2 different pairs of these adorning each end of their circular drive. We've always found them to be an interesting choice. Recently the property changed hands and we were curious as to whether the new owners would keep them or not. When it looked like a sledgehammer had been taken to them, we figured they were on their way out! Several weeks later, one is tipped over on its side, the one here is full of holes but the other 2 are still standing, untouched.... curiouser and curiouser!!!
