Have buggy, will travel!

We went for a walk today & brought along some little buddies :) At first they thought it was warm outside & had shorts & Tshirts on but they weren't long changing! Sweetie was quite concerned about the weather & brought along extra shoes, mitts and another coat. She also felt the sunhat was necessary on top of her hood. A girl can never be too careful you know!

They tried out some new strolling moves & saw the picture & said they looked "cool".

and the ol' push stroller away downhill & run like heck to catch it before it hits the ditch is alays fun!

We stopped by Tulip's old house and then went up to check out the new house they've built & will soon move into.
Hard to believe these girls all start kindergarten together in the fall! It will be interesting to compare these group photos over the years to come :)

Yay for Sun!

It's that weird time of year when the weather flip flops on you like crazy and you can't pack away anything just yet and your entryway is packed full of gear for every range of temperature. I can't put away the winter coats because we keep having the odd chilly day, but have to have the rain coats out for the wet days and rubber boots for puddle jumping and winter boots for when it's too cold for the rubbers and mitts & hats etc.

Today though was a promise of summer to come! The warmth was so enjoyable!!! I went to a class at the gym this morning and then ran home to hang out the laundry in the nice breeze. It's so nice to see sheets flapping in the breeze again!

putting my stamp on this is a bit fraudulent, props to Teena for this buddy buddy shot! :)

After lunch Teena & Boo came to visit and the girls anxiously awaited their arrival. At one point Lovey got impatient and decided she'd wait outside so she'd know exactly when they got there! The kids ran around the yard, played on the swings, dug around in the sandbox and even had popsicles. The weather was just perfect, and as Teena said, almost tropical with a bit of humidity in the air. On the one hand, I'm not sure what I'll do for 2 months with no preschool but on the other, I'm so looking forward to swimming in the pool, picnics in the park, going for walks and picking flowers and all that fun stuff!

Lovey's been itching to wear this outfit I got at the clothing sale & finally it was warm enough today!

Honey & Sweetie, taking shelter from the potentially incoming rain...
bad picture so I thought I'd "enhance" it appropriately ;)

Birthday Girl :)

Grammie's birthday was last week but we had our family dinner on Sunday night, complete with birthday cake. Unfortunately we didn't have any presents for her as the girls just couldn't wait for the party. They had to do it all on Friday when she came to visit. They were extremely excited to watch her open the gifts!

Our bbq didn't go as planned and we ran out of propane in the middle so had to cook the rest indoors.... oh well!

Grammie didn't go home completely empty handed as Uncle Dale was here with his present and we loaded her up with desserts to take!

Logos, Antonyms, Synonyms and Homonyms

This is what we're into this week!

As a means of distracting them one day & averting a major melt down/stopping a fight, I pointed out the car in front of us had a Ford logo. They only recognize a few logos so far, McDonald's for example. So they understood what a logo was and were instantly fascinated to learn another one. Soon they were asking about every car we passed or that was in front of us. As we drive by car dealerships they'll holler out "FORD!" "HONDA!" etc

Honey was checking out the differences between Hyndai & Honda logos and I explained that the "H" in Honda was straight but the one in Hyndai was slanted/crooked. Well! She didn't want anything to do with sloppy crooked logos! When she grows up she's having a purple Honda and nothing but!

Lovey is in love with Ford. She has learned to spell it and recognizes it a mile away. Her dream car is a hot pink Ford.

Sweetie, as usual, is not committing/limiting herself to anything and is keeping her options open at this time.

And the other fascination this week is about words that sound the same but mean different, are opposites or have similar meanings. Sweetie started it off by asking why two words sounded the same to her but meant different things. So I explained about homonyms. That was several weeks ago. Then a couple weeks ago, she ran into the kitchen saying "Mumma! what's that thing called where the words are the same but mean different things?" Stunned that she'd even remembered that brief conversation, I said "ummm homonyms????" She nodded her head quickly and said "oh yeah! homonyms!" and then zipped off to go back to whatever she'd been doing when this burning question came to her.

She has been giving this quite a bit of thought and has been coming up with many more. She'll burst out at random times with "Mumma! I just thought of another homonym!" You'd think she'd just found treasure, she's so pleased with her find. The other night she came up to me with another discovery, "pauper like a poor person and popper like the toy we have!" It's interesting and proud mum that I am, just a little impressive to see her come up with these! Since she'd grasped that concept so well, I also explained about synonyms and antonyms. They're having a bit of trouble keeping the categories straight but it's a good game to play in the car to keep them thinking and not fighting!

Dates with Daddy

There is a daily radio program that I try to catch "Focus on the Family". They have so much good info on raising a family, being a mom etc. One day they were talking about how daughters need time with their dads and that they should go on little "dates" well before they're old enough to date boys.

Honey had decided to cash in some beans for a "date" with Daddy & go for ice cream like her sisters had. All day she talked about it, deciding what to wear so she'd look nice for her date. She got concerned about the time, she didn't want to be late for her date. By the time they were leaving, she was sooooooooo ready! She enjoyed every minute of it. They both did!

She had initially said she wanted to go with me but part way through the day, she hesitantly asked if maybe it would be alright to go with Daddy instead. I told her that she got to spend lots of time with me all day and that time with Daddy was special so I thought it would be a great idea to go with him instead. The relief on her face was so obvious. I asked her if she was worried about asking me about that. She said yes, she didn't want me to be upset. I told her it didn't make me sad because I knew she loved me and her daddy and I knew they'd have a great time. That seemed to work for her and she ran off to play.

That girl is a heavy thinker for a not quite 5 year old! :)
