Running out of Summer!

The kids only have a few vacation days left and they're mostly spoken for! I can't believe it's September already and my girls are about to leave me again. On the other hand, they're getting tired out and are having crying outbursts and petty fights even more frequently than usual so maybe all this togetherness is starting to wear thin?

I thought the summer would be longer though! We kept busy, going places, having friends over to swim, vacation, church camps and weekends at the cottage made the weeks fly by so fast. The excitement just never stopped. On days we didn't have an act
ivity or outing planned, we went to the gym for the morning, got home for lunch and by the time we finished that and went for a swim, that was most of the day gone.

From speaking to other parents, I'd expected the summer to be awful. Everyone seems to dread having their kids home from school. Many people I've talked to are counting down the days til school starts up again and I'm surprised that there are so few days left! Mind you there was the odd day I was about to tear my hair out for the bickering/whining or both but for this year anyway, I can say that I didn't have any flashes of "HOW many days til they go back?!?!?!?"

Tomorrow the girls have a sleepover at Grammie & Grandad's and they've been doing some menu planning, event scheduling and from the bag on their floor, it looks like they've started packing! (don't worry, I'll check it to make sure they're taking more than Barbie accessories Mum)

While the mice are away, Murray & I are going out for dinner! I'm not sure where but definitely someplace peaceful and adult-like that doesn't serve anything wrapped in waxed paper wrappers! Gotta have standards right?

On Saturday I'm working a wedding with Shooter Shelley and I can't wait! Somehow she only got talked into one this year and I almost missed out on the job. Someone else had the nerve to offer to help her out but I made her get rid of them and take me instead. :))) Nobody works that clipboard like I do so back off sista! We met last week to go check out the church and the reception location and spots for the formal group shots etc. Tonight we got together again and talked rapidfire for 3½ hours! Time flies when you're having fun!

Here's the church we're shooting in on Saturday! What's exciting this time is that I'll be doing more than holding her gear. She actually wants me to do some second shooting for her! Normally I lug stuff and keep track of what shots she needs to get. Since it's her "last one ever" she's going to go all out and let me fire off some shots too! Since I know she's got everything covered, I don't feel much pressure and can hopefully enjoy the day!

I was on my way to pick up the girls at church today when I got a call. I found a place to park and it was Lovey's kindergarten teacher! They're trying to find a kindergarten assistant and wondered if I was interested. It is so flattering to be thought of when people are looking to fill a position but I turned it down. While it would be a good schedule and holidays to match the kids', I'd have no free time to do any of my stuff! I've just gotten so I can get to the gym regularly and run errands after 5 years and I kind of like it! So I think at least one more year of "Kelly" is in order :)))

I mentioned the girls' emotional rollercoasters lately and there were several flare ups today! Honey has developed a fear of doing anything/going anywhere by herself. She can't stay in her bedroom if Lovey isn't in there. She can't go inside to use the bathroom if we're out in the pool. She's seeing ghosts and is terrified to be alone. Today she told me that Murphy is a ghost. One day she looked down the hall and saw him standing there with red eyeballs and he kept looking at her and raising his eyebrows. Now I don't know if you have ever met our dog but he is the least demonically possessed thing I have ever encountered!!!!!!!! It was with MUCH effort that I swallowed the mad giggling that was bubbling in my throat. Now if she's said that PW's head had been spinning around or something, THAT would have been more believable! I told her it was probably just the way the light was in his eyes, just like we see in pictures sometimes but it didn't cut any grass with her. Finally I opened the door to the house and dumped her in and closed it fast. We aren't sure how much of the fear is manufactured for attention and how much they've convinced themselves is real. That girl leapt off the floor and was shrieking and crying to get back outside in 2 seconds flat! I stayed on my side of the door and talked to her and told her I couldn't come in because the others were in the pool but that I'd wait for her. She ran and took care of business in record time and was back out without incident. The real kicker was that she'd done a bathroom run, unassisted and without drama about an hour or so before this! Selective fear???? Hard to say! The heat lately isn't helping so maybe being overheated and overtired is just taking its toll??? Let's hope cooler weather brings a little harmony and soon please!!! :)))

Hot Stuff!

Is it hot at your house?? still ridiculously warm here at mine. It was hard to sleep last night, so I'm hoping that pure exhaustion will knock me out so I can have a good night tonight!

We got invited out to a friend's place and they were right on the water and that was THE place to be today. We all spent a lot of time swimming to cool off. It was so nice there that I drove back to pick up Murray and bring him out to have supper there so we could stay longer!

My friend Erin brought along some face paint and did all the kids at the end of the day. Sweetie picked a rainbow, Lovey wanted a butterfly on one side and a pony on the other but without sketches to go by, Erin had her work cut out for her with that order! Honey wanted a dolphin and it turned out really neat. The dolphin's head is around her left eye, the body and then tail go across her nose diagonally and the other two parts are the flippers.

We got home a bit late but everyone was tucked in quickly. It didn't take long for them to crash out tonight and I'm ready for that too!
