Man oh man! Talk about crappy travelling weather! We were going to Murray's parents for Easter & had planned to leave Thursday afternoon. Well that didn't pan out due to the stupid snowstorm that enabled us to build a giant snowman instead. Friday morning was much better and we were off & arrived without incident and made decent time. Saturday, MORE bad weather! There was NO snow when we got there, Murray & I didn't even bring boots or winter jackets! It kept up all day, cutting short the Easter dinner so people could get home before it got any worse. This morning the snow was still falling there but tapered off by mid morning but as we checked the reports for our route, it wasn't so great. We waited a few hours, hoping it would improve as the day went on but it didn't seem to change. Based on the fantastic weather (sunny, bright & beautiful!) and the kids getting bored and antsy, we decided to hit the road. We hadn't gone much over an hour when things slowed down to one lane and we had to drastically reduce speed as we saw cars, minivans, SUVs etc strewn in the ditches along the way. Not quite halfway home we came to a complete halt. The pavement was clear there was no snow in the air at all so we figured there must have been an accident. We were over 3 hours into the trip which would normally be a total of 4 hrs travel time and still not halfway? and 3 little kids in the back? Not a good combo and we braced ourselves for the fallout. But you know what? Those girls were little troopers! Only a few minor complaints & minimal fussing. We were almost 7 hours getting home in total and they were great about it. It could have been soooooooo much worse! The DVD player and large supply of snacks didn't hurt either!
Based on the hellish trip, I'm turning in early. First nights home are sometimes restless for the kids & I'm already beat! More tomorrow though. (at least, that's the plan...)
